Bloody Mary Mix:

  • One 64-ounce bottle tomato juice
  • 3 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Hot sauce, as needed
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Fixin’s Bar:

  • 24 asparagus spears, trimmed
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 24 peeled and deveined shrimp (U16 size)
  • 12 slices crisp-cooked bacon
  • 12 celery stalks with leaves, bottoms trimmed
  • 24 black olives
  • 1 jar small whole pickles (not gherkins)
  • 1 bottle hot sauce
  • 1 bottle Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 container Montreal steak seasoning
  • One 750-milliliter bottle vodka (2 ounces per drink)

How To Make Bloody Mary Bar?

  1. Make the Bloody Mary mix: In a large pitcher, stir together the tomato juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, lemon juice, hot sauce (as spicy as you like), and a pinch of salt and pepper. Chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
  2. Roast the asparagus and shrimp: Preheat your oven to 220°C / 425°F. Spread asparagus on one baking tray and dot with half the butter, seasoning well. On a second tray, arrange the prawns or shrimp and top with the remaining butter and seasoning. Roast both trays for about 12 minutes, or until cooked and slightly browned. Let them cool completely.
  3. Prep garnishes ahead: Transfer cooled asparagus, bacon, and celery into separate containers. Place shrimp and olives into individual bowls and cover. Arrange everything on a baking tray and refrigerate until serving.
  4. Set up your Bloody Mary bar: Stand the asparagus, celery, and bacon upright in tall pitchers. Uncover the bowls of shrimp and olives and place them on the table. Open the pickle jar and leave the lid off. Fill a tall glass or jar with 24 cocktail skewers. Add the bottles of hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, steak seasoning, and vodka. Set out the chilled Bloody Mary mix, a big bowl of ice, and 12 highball glasses.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Have each guest fill a glass halfway with ice, then pour in Bloody Mary mix until two-thirds full. Add vodka (or skip it for a mocktail) and top with their favourite fixings skewered however they like—cheers!

Recipe Tips:

  • Roast the shrimp and asparagus just before serving if you want them warm—otherwise, cool them completely before storing to keep them fresh and flavourful.
  • Use high-quality tomato juice as the base for the mix—it makes a big difference in taste and thickness.
  • Don’t skip the horseradish—it gives the Bloody Mary its classic kick. Start with less and add more to taste.
  • Prepare garnishes the day before to save time. Store each item in separate containers to keep them crisp and fresh.
  • Offer a variety of spice levels—some guests like it mild, others want heat. Set out mild and spicy hot sauces so everyone can choose.

How To Store & Reheat Leftovers?

  • Refrigerate:Let the leftover Bloody Mary mix, cooked shrimp, and roasted asparagus cool to room temperature. Then store each component in separate airtight containers in the fridge. Use within 2–3 days for the best flavour and freshness.
  • Reheat: Warm the shrimp and asparagus in a pan over medium heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring gently until heated evenly. Do not reheat the Bloody Mary mix—serve it chilled.
