Recipe Ingredients:
Syrup:
- Zest and juice of 3 blood oranges (about 1/2 cup juice) plus 4 slices blood orange
- 6 ounces fresh blackberries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 36 mint leaves
To Serve:
- 8 ounces silver rum
- 24 ounces sparkling mineral water, such as Topo Chico
How To Make Blackberry Blood Orange Mojitos?
- Make the syrup: In a small saucepan, combine blood orange zest, juice, blackberries, sugar, and 20 mint leaves. Bring to a boil, stirring and mashing the blackberries and mint leaves to release flavors. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
- Divide the syrup: Evenly distribute the mixture among 4 wide-mouth 16oz (450ml) mason jars, about 80ml / ⅓ cup per jar. Add one slice of blood orange and 4 mint leaves to each jar. Use immediately or seal with lids and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Assemble the mojitos: Fill each jar with ice, then pour 60ml / 2oz rum into each. Secure the lids and shake well.
- Finish and serve: Remove the lids and top each with 180ml / 6oz sparkling mineral water. Add extra ice if desired.

Recipe Tips:
- Use fresh ingredients: Fresh blood oranges and blackberries give the best flavor. If blood oranges aren’t available, swap them with regular oranges or a mix of oranges and lemons.
- Muddle gently: When crushing the mint and blackberries, don’t overdo it—just enough to release the flavors without making the drink bitter.
- Chill the syrup: For the best taste, let the syrup cool completely before using. You can even make it ahead and store it in the fridge for a stronger flavor.
- Choose good sparkling water: A high-quality mineral water like Topo Chico or San Pellegrino makes a big difference in taste and fizziness.
- Adjust the sweetness: If you like a sweeter mojito, add a little extra sugar or a splash of simple syrup before serving.
How To Store Leftovers?
- Refrigerate: Let the mojito syrup cool to room temperature, then store it in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 3 days. When ready to serve, add ice, rum, and sparkling water.
- Freeze: This recipe is not suitable for freezing because carbonation and fresh mint don’t freeze well. Instead, make and freeze the syrup separately in ice cube trays for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge before using
